Hey Ditsies,
It's the Thursday after carnival and let me tell you, I am KNACKERED. I can't even call myself an old lady because that would bring offense to the very active elderly society her in Trinidad and Tobago.
I know it's weird but I just don't get Carnival. I'll pause here so you can take in that statement.
I would imagine this is you right now. But to be fair, I do like to party, I just like to digest it in small bites. I'm a lightweight so I have to take things slowly or else I may end up in someone's koi pond. I'll save that story for another day.
The hot sun, the crowds, the sweat, those are the only things I can think of when I hear Carnival. I have however never played so maybe I just need to test the waters.
As an up and coming data scientist, it is my duty to conduct the necessary research before making any blanket assumptions. So next year I will give it a try. A big factor is the cost and I could just never justify it. But for the cause and for you Ditsies I will put all of my hesitations aside and maybe, just maybe, end up having the time of my life.
Aside from Carnival, these past weeks have been very interesting. I have started integrating new systems into my life. Remember, last we spoke, I couldn't find myself to sit down and do my studies as I felt like there was no place to do so... Apparently, the Starbucks 2 minutes from my home is the perfect place. Just on a whim I went there, ordered a chai latte (super yummy) and a double smoked bacon cheddar and egg sandwich, sat down, pulled my laptop out and my brain just flowed. It was incredible. I felt like I was out in the world but still in my own little productivity bubble. I used a key word above "Systems". That word may seem so dull but I truly believe that we as humans are based in systems. Our patterns. I couldn't focus at home because my desk is in my bedroom right next to my bed which makes me feel to sleep. So every time I went home after work to study I would fail. Taking myself out of that environment increased my productivity ten fold. I sat in Starbucks for hours to the point where this sweet barista brought me a yummy sample of their upcoming molten chocolate iced frappe. It was delicious.
So here's my advice to you this week. If you are struggling to find your focus, think about where you are trying to seek out that focus. Is it somewhere where you already have an existing system in place? Like sleeping, eating or even scrolling on your phone for 500 hours like me. We all have that one couch we plop onto and instantly we are checking our phones. We are creatures of habit. Find somewhere with a clean slate, maybe your backyard, your local library, your nearest mall or local cafe. Focus may just exist in the most unthought of places.
Let's find it together.
Don't forget to sign or renew your carnival contract for 2025.
See you there!
XOXO
